Idella Alford-Johnson
March 8, 1955 - February 20, 2024
Our hearts mourn the loss of a beloved family member, Idella Alford-Johnson. Our cherished matriarch, gracefully departed this earthly realm on February 20, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 68. Born on March 8, 1955, in the very city where she cultivated enduring connections, Idella was a beacon of love within her community.
Idella married Larry Johnson, and together they were blessed with two cherished daughters, Shondella Johnson-Umeh & Vivian Johnson, whom she adored. Her joy and pride were boundless with the arrival of grandsons, Ramaj White, and Bennie Smith III; granddaughters, Bennae Smith and Bonita Smith; along with great-grandchildren, Makaio White, and Milani Smith. As the youngest of seven siblings, she is survived by her sister, Beverly Allen, and brother, Isreal Alford (Norma).
With a passion for education and learning, Idella attended Wichita public schools, Wichita South High School and later embarked on a successful aerospace career, skillfully providing for her family, and nurturing a warm and loving home.
Her unwavering dedication, strength, and resilience were admirable traits that defined her. Idella’s generosity and kindness touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on her community. Known for her selflessness and eagerness to assist those in need, she made a lasting impact on all fortunate enough to cross her path.
In her leisure time, Idella enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She had a beautiful voice and lived singing rhythm and blues hits from the 70s and 80s. Gifted in fashion design, she could design and sew attire without a pattern. Her infectious love for life brought joy and positivity to any room she entered. Compassion, wisdom, and grace were woven into the fabric of her being, rendering her a truly special and irreplaceable soul.
