Mourning Marcus A. Roberts

Marcus A. Roberts

Our family mourns the loss of Marcus Apollos Roberts, who passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2022, at the age of 61.

Marcus Apollos Roberts was born on July 24, 1960, to Tom and Deloria Roberts in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Marcus was the youngest of five children born to this union. He was preceded in death by his mother Deloria V. Roberts, both sets of grandparents, brother-in-love Nathaniel Goodman, and a favorite cousin Sharon Williams.

At an early age Marcus accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Evangelistic Baptist Church where his father was Founder and Pastor. Marcus served in various areas of the church, including Junior Choir, Royal Ambassadors, Sunday School and Usher Board.

He attended Longfellow Elementary School, Eisenhower Junior High School, John Marshall High School, and Texas Southern University. Marcus’ athletic skills were sharpened as he grew a great interest in playing Baseball on the Kiwanis League beginning with the “Peewee” team thru Junior High. He later excelled in high school football as a John Marshall “Bear”. “Win or Lose”, Marcus remained a true Dallas Cowboy fan.

Marcus was always seen as a kind and friendly person of few words. He was employed by the City of Oklahoma City Human Resource Department for five years. He lived at the Towers Apartment for several decades and was respected and lovingly referred to as “Old Man Roberts” by many.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, his father, Dr. T.J. Roberts, Th.D.; siblings, Deborah Goodman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tommie Madison (William) of McLeansville, North Carolina, Dorcas Roberts and Joseph Roberts both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four nieces and nephews, Kiwanis Roberts (Andrea), Tori Goodman VanDyke (Jermaine), Nathaniel J. Goodman and Jamika JoVauncille Roberts; five great nieces and nephews, Kiwanis II, Ki’yana , Kalencia, and Kameron Roberts, and Jasmine VanDyke; two aunts, Merdine Black of Pearland, Texas and Naomi Kendrick of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two uncles, Willie Alford (Jo Ann) of San Jose, California and Hugh Taylor (Philippines); and a host of cousins and friends.

Services were held Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Evangelistic Baptist Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with Dr. Gregory Anderson officiating. The internment immediately followed the funeral services at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
