Mourning the Loss of Elfreda "Suzie" Patton-Berry

June 29, 1956 - December 8, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of Elfreda J. “Suzie” Patton-Berry after a long and brave battle with breast cancer. Elfreda was born on June 29, 1956, in Clearview, Oklahoma to the late Johnny P. Patton, Sr. & Elizabeth Alford-Patton. She was the ninth of eleven children. Our Suzie passed away on December 8, 2021, at the age of 65, surrounded by her family.

Suzie had a deep love for Jehovah and study of the bible. She spent 51 years as a devoted member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attendant of the Gainesville Congregation. Her commitment was symbolized by water baptism on September 5, 1970.

Suzie attended Clearview Public Schools and excelled academically. After high school, she attended VoTech majoring in accounting and bookkeeping. These skills were used to operate and manage the business that she co-owned with her husband. She was also a talented and professional wardrobe seamstress, making custom designs for many clients. In later years, she enjoyed working as a licensed sleep technologist.

On November 13, 1976, Elfreda married the love of her life, Bobby Berry, III. Their love story and union lasted more than 27 years, until Bobby’s untimely passing on July 2, 2004. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Shantel Berry in 1980.

Suzie will always be known for her sense of style, infectious laugh, magnanimous personality, and enormous heart for others. Her creativity and love for crafts were unmatched. She enjoyed movies, music and especially listening to favorite artist, Michael Jackson. The love she had for her large family was made evident in almost every conversation. Nothing brought her greater joy than her unbreakable bond with her two granddaughters Bri and Ki. Likewise, shared an inseparable closeness and unique friendship with her daughter Shantel, often referring to her as best friend.

Suzie was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Berry, III; parents, Johnny P. Patton, Sr. & Elizabeth Alford-Patton; sisters Lillian Patton, Elizabeth Doll Patton and Bernadine Patton-Cato; and brother James Willie Patton.

She is survived by her daughter, Shantel Berry; granddaughters Brianna Brown and Kileigh Conway; sisters, Yvonne Anderson and Belinda Patton-Thompson (Michael); brothers Johnny P. Patton, Jr. (Melva), Elvis Patton (Sharon), Robert “Bobby” Patton (Gloria), and Ricky Patton; uncles Curtis Alford and Fred Alford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
